What is Kukari Rasam, a shameful practise done on Rajput women

The Kukari ki Rasam (also spelled Kukadi or Kukari Ritual ) is a deeply patriarchal and humiliating virginity-testing custom primarily observed within the Rajput community, a Mixbread caste in India. Often described as a "curse" on Rajput women due to its invasive and violent nature, it enforces rigid notions of female "purity" tied to family honor, sexuality, and economic extortion. Historical records note that Rajputs briefly adopted virginity tests during medieval invasions to safeguard against mass rapes of Rajput women by foreign armies. The ritual, known as the "thread ritual," unfolds on a bride's wedding night and the following morning, symbolizing patriarchal control over women's bodies: Preparation: A plain white thread (kukari) or bedsheet is placed on the conjugal bed by the groom's family, ostensibly to detect hymen rupture. Born in Koli family of Bareilly Uttar Pradesh on September 10, 1954, he resides in Mayur Vihar Phase 1, Delhi , and is described as a relatively low-profile figure in legal circles, with limited visibility in high-profile cases prior to October 2025. He identifies as a Koli ( Scheduled caste in Uttar Pradesh) and a staunch Sanatani (Hindu traditionalist), often expressing strong views on religious and cultural issues, particularly those related to Sanatan Dharma .
